Slimming for summer

Once the triple whammy of over indulgence that is St Patrick's Day, Mother's Day and Easter is safely behind us, thoughts may be turning towards the summer holidays and the annual weight loss season!

Work this out before you work out

  • One portion of Tesco lasagne (560 cal): 45 minutes of spinning
  • One slice of Domino's pepperoni pizza (198 cal): 45 minutes of swimming
  • Chocolate-chip muffin (476 cal): 58 minutes of climbing
  • Packet of cheese and onion crisps (184 cal): 35 minutes of frisbee
  • Subway tuna wrap (310 cal): 1 hour and 10 minutes of body pump
  • Bacon sandwich on white bread (430 cal): 58 minutes of football
  • Ham and cheese toastie (436 cal): 1 hour and 30 minutes of netball
  • Granny Smith apple (62 cal): 15 minutes of weightlifting
  • M&S hot cross bun (159 cal): 20 minutes of skipping
  • Mars bar (280 cal): 50 minutes of aqua aerobics

It's easier to get slimmer and stay slimmer by controlling your eating than it is by working it off. By using hypnosis and NLP it is possible to re-educate the mind to be happier with smaller portions of food, so that you take on board only the food you need to fuel your body.

Treating Depression

Everyone feels a bit "down" from time to time. It's part of life. Clinical depression, however, is a lot different to having the occasional "blue" day. Feelings of hopelessness and helplessness become dominant, and physical symptoms can occur in addition to emotional or psychological ones. The standard medical treatment is usually anti-depressant medication, typically selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRI's) such as Prozac and Seroxat and Lexapro. These act by "rebalancing" the brain chemistry to become more like that of a non-depressed person.

Of course this is a good thing, but it does nothing to address the reasons for that chemistry being out of balance in the first place. This means the depression is being managed rather than treated. If the medication is taken away, then symptoms tend to return. Depression is only defeated by dealing with the cause, which is the thought pattern of depression itself. This is most easily done using hypnosis.

Hypnosis is a really potent tool in the treatment of depression. It is inherently relaxing, which is a good start. It also separates conscious, logical, interference from the therapeutic process and allows the therapist to address the illogical, subconscious part of the mind. This is where thought patterns change, behaviours are altered and symptoms begin to lift. The process is relatively brief - usually 8-10 sessions, which compares favourably with CBT and conventional drug therapy. A lot of suggestion work is recorded onto CD for the client to use at home, which speeds up things quite a lot.

The process aims to do the following:

  • Silence the "rumination" process and allowing sleep to happen naturally
  • Break the pattern of hopelessness and negative expectation
  • Break the pattern of feeling stuck, helpless, and hopeless
  • Teach a clear sense of personal boundaries and how to maintain them
  • Transform guilt into liberation
  • Prevent life's stressors from controlling the ability to cope
  • Enable empowerment and foresight
